Our Learn to Row program is designed to get you on the water and learning the basics in no time. A fun and inclusive experience, the program teaches the fundamentals of the sport in a small group setting. For each program session, youth are grouped, whenever possible, according to grade level or by age (which usually ranges from 12-18 years).
The first part of each session typically starts on land to reinforce the basic skills and knowledge of rowing. The coach will determine when the boat is ready to go out on the water. Programming includes 10 hours of coached training -- typically delivered in 5 (2 hrs each) sessions. Dates and times can be found on the registration page.
Safety Policy: Good attendance is crucial to safety and maximum learning. Rowers must attend all classes, and are encouraged to choose another term if they cannot commit to a minimum of 80% class attendance overall. Our Competitive Juniors program is intended for high school aged youth rowers with a minimum of one season of experience who want to improve their technique and physical fitness in order to compete against other youth teams. Commitment to attend all practices and races is required. Crew is a team sport where success is determined by which teams row best together - this makes regular attendance crucial for rowers to perform well. Participation in the program, as well as any regattas, will be at the coaches' discretion. Based on performance and commitment, coaching staff will make all decisions on which boats rowers will practice and compete in.
There are four separate seasons -- Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall. The winter season is held entirely indoors on rowing machines (ergometers), but includes indoor rowing races as well. Rowers seeking to row in college are encouraged to participate in at least three seasons a year their sophomore, junior and senior year of high school. The most competitive races nationally are held in the summer, so that should be a priority for those seeking to compete at the highest levels.
Practices are generally after school 4 days a week between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm (3:00-4:30 for JV / 4:30-6:00 for Varsity) and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 10:30 am (8:00-9:30 for JV and 9:00-10:30 for Varsity), while most regattas are on weekends. Check our calendar for details.

ROLLING 8-WEEK PROGRAM Our Adaptive program is geared to people with physical disabilities. Due to equipment constraints, this program is still limited in the number of participants it can accept. It currently runs on a rolling 8 week basis (8 weeks start counting once rower enrolls). As interest and our capacity to handle more adaptive rowers increases we will formalize more programs.
